We checked and indeed SomaLife does have a patent on their product. They do point to a New England Journal of Medicine, July 1990 reference.
Hey, that’s a fifteen years old reference!
One more thing.
If you are a company and you site a reference it is appropriate to show the exact reference, in context. Apparently SomaLife wants us to take their word for it.

Suggested Use: Adults Only: Women, 3 capsules in the morning and 3 capsules in the evening. Men, 6 capsules before retiring. This product is best taken on an empty stomach or as directed by a health professional. Drinking a minimum of eight glasses of water daily is recommended.
Once again, we’ll pass this tip along. If you choose to take a secretagogue like Somalife it is better to take it with carbonated water to help buffer stomach acids.
Conclusion:
SomaLife is another overpriced secretagogue.
